BROADCASTING PROGRAM FEATURED AT TRUSTEES MEETING
The members of the Board of Trustees of Iowa Lakes
Community College were updated Tuesday afternoon on
the Broadcasting program which is based at the
Estherville campus.
Darin Moeller, Executive Dean of the Estherville
campus, introduced Bob Pritchard, Assistant
Professor of the Broadcast Media Specialist program.
Pritchard showcased the upgrades which are occurring
in the program, thanks to funding from the Carl D.
Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act.
Technicians are currently installing a Skylla
Broadcast System which will be the big step needed
to allow students to broadcast live on the Internet.
Internet broadcasts are of particular interest since
students will, in essence, broadcast worldwide.
This will enhance the program and we should be able
to attract more students interested in
broadcasting, Pritchard said.
Students may choose to focus on TV video production
on air and behind the scenes talent or radio
broadcasting.
The Broadcast Media Specialist program includes two
full years of college education with students
achieving an Associate in Science degree. At
the completion of the A.S. degree, students may
choose to get a job or transfer to four-year
colleges.
In other business, Judy Cook , Executive Dean of
Instruction and Development, presented the list of
summer graduates which were approved by the
Trustees.
Also, the Trustees held the first reading of a
Missing Student Notification Policy which will be
required by July 1, 2010. The exact steps will
be outlined on the college Web site and in the
student handbook. They also passed the second
reading of an addition to the Board Policy which
involves potential identity theft.
Two donated gifts have been given to the college.
The Trustees accepted a Victory Motorcycle from
Polaris Industries for the Motorcycle Technology
program. A second gift a Laser Alignment
System from Ludeca Inc. was given to the Wind
Energy and Turbine Technology program.
Financial reports for June and July were approved;
and the Trustees approved a banking services
proposal from Bank Midwest.
Also during the meeting, the Trustees gave oral
reports on college and statewide committees.
