IOWA LAKES SOFTBALL SIGNS THREE FOR 2003 SEASON

Tuesday, January 15, was the NJCAA national signing date for Division II softball and Iowa Lakes Community College Head Softball Coach Mike Bosch has announced the signing of three players to National Junior College letters of intent.  Emily Christensen, an outfielder from Estherville-Lincoln Central; Abby Schmidt, a pitcher from Worthington, Minn., and Abby Anderson, a pitcher from Estherville-Lincoln Central have all made Iowa Lakes their future home to play softball.

Christensen was a 3rd team Class 2A all-state selection last season while playing for ELC Head Coach Don Menke.  She was also a unanimous selection to the Lakes Conference all-conference team and an outfielder on the Northwest Iowa all-district team.  Christensen batted .341 last season with 43 hits in 43 games in leading ELC to 34-9 record last year.

Schmidt was a three-time all-conference selection who has compiled 573 strikeouts in her career at Worthington High School.  Schmidt finished the 2001 season with an ERA of 0.82 and a batting average of .342.  She had five career no-hitters and five career one-hitters to go with her impressive strike out totals.

Anderson was selected to the Lakes Conference all-conference team last season as a pitcher and was a member of the Northwest Iowa all-district.  Anderson was also a Class 2A special mention all-state selection and finished the 2001 season with a 16-4 record.  Anderson gave up only 65 hits in 125 innings of work last season and helped ELC win the Lakes Conference Championship.

“Obviously we are excited to add pitching and speed to our team,” commented Coach Bosch. “All three of these players bring a number of positive attributes that will greatly improve our team next season.  We are thrilled to have them wearing Laker blue and gold in 2003.”
